1. Data we collect
We collect personal data only when you choose to provide it, primarily through the contact form. That typically includes your name and email address, plus any other details you decide to include in your message — for example, the page you were reading, a correction you spotted, or a question about a symptom we describe.
We also collect limited technical data automatically when you visit, such as pages viewed and general device or browser information. This is used to understand how the site is used and to keep it working. It does not identify you by name, and we do not combine it with the contents of your message.
Given by you
- Your name, so we know how to address a reply.
- Your email address, so we can answer you.
- The wording of your message and any details you add.
Recorded automatically
- Which pages were opened and roughly when.
- The type of device and browser used.
- Basic technical signals that help us spot errors and abuse.
2. Why we use it
Contact form data is used to respond to your message and to follow up on correction requests or content queries. If you point out that a page explains a symptom in a way that is unclear or out of date, we use your note to fix the wording. We do not use your message for marketing, and we do not add correspondents to mailing lists.
Technical data is used for site performance, security, and understanding which pages visitors find useful. It is not used to identify individual visitors, and it is not used to build profiles of people reading about vision symptoms.
- Answering your question, correction, or request.
- Keeping the site available, quick to load, and safe from misuse.
- Seeing which guides readers actually use, so we can improve the weak ones.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
The site uses cookies to support basic functionality and, where applicable, to measure traffic. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
Details of the cookies used, what each one does, and how long it stays on your device are set out in our cookie policy.

4. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell personal data. We do not share contact form submissions with third parties for their own marketing. Your message is read by the people answering site correspondence, and it stays there.
Limited sharing may occur with service providers who help operate the site, such as hosting providers, and where required by law. In those cases, data is shared only to the extent necessary for that service, or to meet a legal obligation we cannot refuse.
- Service providers who host and protect the site, acting on our instructions.
- A lawful request from a public authority, limited to what that request actually requires.
- Nothing else — no sale, no rental, no trade of your contact details.
5. Retention
Contact form messages are kept for as long as needed to handle the query and for a reasonable period afterwards for reference. That reference period exists so we can pick up a thread again if you write a second time about the same page. You can ask us to delete your message and contact details at any time.
Technical and analytics data is retained in aggregated or pseudonymous form according to the retention settings of the tools used, so that long-term trends are visible without keeping a record of individual visitors.
- Contact message
- Kept while the query is open, then for a reasonable reference period. Deleted on request.
- Name and email from the form
- Stored with the message so we can reply, and removed when the message is removed.
- Traffic and analytics data
- Held in aggregated or pseudonymous form, following the retention settings of the tools in use.
6. Your rights
You can ask what personal data we hold about you, request a copy, ask for corrections, or ask for deletion. Contact us using the details on the contact page, and include enough information for us to locate your records — the email address you wrote from is usually enough.
We will respond within a reasonable period. If we cannot act on a request, we will explain why — for example, if we cannot match the request to any record we hold. We do not charge for handling these requests.
Ask what we hold
A plain description of the records linked to your messages.
Request a copy
A readable copy of what you sent and what we replied.
Ask for corrections
If your name or email was recorded with a mistake, we will fix it.
Ask for deletion
Your message and contact details removed from our records.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data submitted through the site. That includes restricting who can open contact messages and keeping the site's software current. No method of transmission or storage is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
A practical note: email is not a private channel. Please do not send medical reports, identity documents, or other sensitive files with a message. If you want to describe your symptoms for a question about a page, general wording is enough for us to help.
8. Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data through the contact form, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in how the site operates or in applicable requirements. The current version is always available on this page, with the date at the top of the page showing when it last changed.
If a change affects how contact form messages are handled, we will make that clear in the wording rather than leave it to a footnote. Continuing to use the site after an update means the current version applies.
